According to Louie Giglio, we all have a primal, innate longing for our father’s attention, affection, approval and blessing. Those of us who were blessed with good earthly fathers – dads who freely gave us their blessing, approval and love early in life – are positioned to flourish as we move into adulthood. However, those of us who were not so fortunate often feel like there is a shadow hanging over our lives.

We hunger for our father’s approval – it feels like an intangible missing puzzle piece that we can never quite find.

In his new book Not Forsaken: Finding Freedom as Sons & Daughters of a Perfect Father, Giglio offers hope to those whose fathers did not bless us in the ways that we needed to be blessed. Not Forsaken points the way to our Heavenly Father who loves us unconditionally and will never leave or forsake us.

There are so many things that I liked about Not Forsaken. First and foremost, this book helps us to assess and understand the nature of our relationship with our earthly fathers – the good, the bad, and the ugly. Second, this book shows how that relationship impacts us in all aspects of our lives, including our current relationships and our relationship with our Heavenly Father. For a lot of us, this experience is painful and exposes us to wounds that need healing.

Giglio assures us that this is okay. He encourages us to cry, express our anger, take time to journal, and to experience the full range of emotions we need to feel as we work our way through this book.

The end result?

Knowing and experiencing God as Father can unlock prison doors, heal wounds, and propel us into greater purpose in our lives.

Reading books are wonderful, but listening to Louie Giglio read Not Forsaken on audiobook was an incredible experience. It gave me the opportunity to have Louis Giglio speak biblical truth directly into my life.

For a long time, I avoided Father’s Day because I was not blessed with the type of earthly fathers that God desires each of us to have. However, through God’s miraculous healing as I came to know God as Father in the way that Giglio speaks of in this book, I now see Father’s Day as a chance to rejoice for the healing and relationship I have with my Father in Heaven today.

I pray for this type of blessing in your life too!
