The String by Caleb Breakey – Book Review
I love games – games of chance, games of strategy, games filled with mystery and intrigue… but the one game I never want to be invited to play is “The String”. You see, in this game, participation is mandatory and there are impossible decisions and potentially deadly consequences for everyone who is involved.
The String is a psychological suspense novel and thriller in which author Caleb Breakey takes the age-old game of Cat and Mouse to nail-biting new heights.
From the start, The Sting immerses us into the nightmarish world of the Conductor – a sociopath who terrorizes the campus of Trenton University with terrible threats and deadly deeds in retribution for past wrongs he believes were perpetrated against him.
Of course, the Conductor never imagined that he would encounter a player who would gamble that he could beat the Conductor at his own game.
Markus is a university cop who is unwillingly drawn into The String. Although he has plenty to lose. he is determined to bring the Conductor to his knees.
However, Marcus has never encountered an adversary like the Conductor before. Could he have bitten off a bit more than he bargained for?
The String is a page-turner that will not only keep you on the edge of your seat and reading into the wee hours of the night, but will also cause you to reflect on its major themes like good versus evil and self-self-sacrifice versus self-preservation.
Publishers Weekly says that:
Breakey’s complicated plot emerges as a parable about
what it means to have faith in the face of evil.
If Thrillers and Suspense is your genre, than The String is your game!
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
