Farewell, Sweet Tsunami – We Will Always Love You

Tsunami Day 1c - July 2007

We have been praying for healing for Tsunami for this past month and providing him with the best veterinary care possible, but this Monday, it became clear to us and the vet that in spite of the treatment he was receiving, he was not getting better. This vet believes that since he has not responded to treatment, a underlying, undiagnosed condition must be the cause – most likely cancer or kidney disease. At this point, even if we ran additional tests and administered additional treatment, it seemed unlikely that he would bounce back.

Tsunami Day 1b - July 2007

So, we brought him home and have spent the past week making him as comfortable as possible, cherishing our final moments with him, and praying for wisdom that we would know when it was time to say our goodbyes. That moment came just a little while ago and, through tears and heartbreak, we made one final drive to the vet so that he could leave us with dignity, grace and peace.

Tsunami Day 1 - July 2007

Tsunami was born on April 7, 2007 and joined our family in July 2007 at 14 weeks. Most of the photos I am sharing with you were taken on the first day that he came to live with us (the last one was taken at 11 weeks). For the past 13 years, he helped fill our home and our hearts with so much love and so many wonderful memories, it’s hard to imagine life without him. Even Magellan knows that life has shifted and he is feeling the loss.

Tsunami at 11 Weeks

One of the things that has brought me great joy over the years is knowing how much joy Tsunami has brought so many of you as well. Thank you for the love you’ve given Tsunami over the years. It’s amazing to live in a day and age where one sweet cat can impact so many lives.

I’m so sorry you had to let Tsunami go, and so young. I had no idea he was unwell. Sometimes we never find a reason without complicated diagnostics and a lot of time, and we often end up with the same diagnosis, but it’s still really hard, without a solid reason, to give up hope and face the reality. We are purring for you and Magellan as you begin your grief journey.
