The Secret Of Maggie’s Swamp – Book Review

Are you looking for a gripping mystery that your children and middle-school age readers will love? If so, you will find a world of intrigue in The Secret Of Maggie’s Swamp by Paul A. Barra! The book is set in the South, in the 1980s, and involves a young girl who must try to correct a grave injustice. Here’s a taste of the story to whet your appetite.

When strange events start happening in the backwoods of the little town of Ryun’s Gap, North Carolina, 11-year old Penny Andrews is the first person to notice.

Her adventure begins the day she discovers strange footprints outside of her family’s chicken yard.

Has an intruder invaded their property? Did a prowler steal their eggs? All sorts of terrible possibilities run through her mind, and cause her to tremble with fright.

At first, she keeps her concerns to herself – after all, her family has enough worries of their own. But a burden of this magnitude is a lot for a young girl to bear, and before long, she tells her best friend Howie what happened.

On his advice, she also shares her secret with John Eargle, an elderly outdoorsman who realizes something is amiss when his hunting rifle mysteriously disappears during an earlier outing.

Before long, Penny discovers that the mystery she and her friends are investigating is more serious and dangerous than anything she could have imagined.

Will Penny be able to save her friends? Will the special gift Penny’s mother says she has be enough to keep Penny and her friends out of harm’s way?

People’s lives hang in the balance – and the outcome impacts not only Penny but her friends, her neighbors, and the entire town!
