Rest Assured by Vicki Courtney – Book Review
Are you the type of person who tends to do more than they should?
Are you a multi-tasker? Someone who always has several projects on their plate? A woman who’s juggling several roles at once?
Do you always feel exhausted, rarely have time for yourself, have trouble winding down for sleep because the events of the day or the things you couldn’t complete on your over-stuffed to-do list are still running through your head?
If so, then Vicki Courtney’s Rest Assured – A Recovery Plan For Weary Souls was written specifically for you!
Rest Assured is written for women who feel that their “greatest risk” is “slowing down and resting” – for women who have “forgotten how to be still”. It’s a book that draws inspiration from Scripture – a book that helps us find the “rest for our souls” that Jesus promised in Matthew 11:29.
Rest Assured takes us on a 30-day journey and recovery plan that challenges us to de-emphasize our culturally-conditioned need to be busy during every waking hour and instead, to start focusing on the biblical imperative to rest.
For those of us who are drowning in a sea of must-dos and should-dos, this book is a lifesaver, I found the book practical and encouraging – filled with plenty of inspiration, exercises and easy-to-implement ideas to help us simplify our lives.
Vicki writes:
My prayer is that this book will produce in each of us an awareness so that when we find ourselves scrambling down the same weary path once again (and trust me, it’s only a matter of time), we can catch ourselves. The truth is, most of us will spend our entire lives learning to be still. My hope is that once we’ve tasted the benefits of being still, we won’t tarry long enough on the same path that leaves us feeling overcommitted, overwhelmed and over-connected, and as a result, robs us of rest.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

My pleasure Melissa – happy reading – hope your year is off to a wonderful start!
I find it so hard to let go of that “culturally-conditioned need to be busy” even when it makes no sense to my current endeavors.
This is such a challenge for me too – but I am making a conscious decision to enter the New Year more relaxed, even in the midst of my endeavors!
Thanks again for joining us on Literacy Musing Mondays. This book sounds like a great resource.
