The Daniel Fast For Weight Loss

The Daniel Fast For Weight Loss – Book Review

If you are a Christian who is interested in losing weight, there are several spiritually-based weight loss programs available to you, but few are currently as popular as the Daniel Fast – a spiritually-based dietary program that emphasizes your relationship with God while placing you on a restrictive diet during a prolonged, partial fast.

What you might not be aware of is that there are several Christian authors who now offer their own version of the Daniel Plan and that each program differs from one another.

In The Daniel Fast For Weight Loss by Susan Gregory, Susan provides an in-depth look at the original version of her Daniel Fast and the benefits the diet provides.

When you’re on The Daniel Fast For Weight Loss, you are required to fast for 21 days and restrict your food intake to primarily plant-based cuisine. Specifically, you cannot eat meat or animal products, dairy products, sweeteners, leavened bread, refined and processed food products, deep fried foods, solid fats or non-water beverages while you are on this diet plan.

Susan and others who promote the Daniel Fast derive their dietary plan from the Old Testament passages of Daniel 1:12, Daniel 10:3 and other Jewish dietary protocols.

If you are wondering if the Daniel Fast is right for you, I encourage you to discuss the nutritional aspects of the plan with your doctor before changing your diet and study the biblical passages on fasting to determine if program fits in with your theology. Pray and discuss the book with your pastor or a mature Christian friend if you have questions.

If you decide that the Daniel Fast is right for you or if you’re undecided and need more information about the plan, The Daniel Fast For Weight Loss does a good job of explaining the program and provides lots of health tips, recipes and devotionals to help you start your diet.

However, because of my own personal reservations about the Daniel Fast, I am not planning on incorporating the Daniel Fast into my life at this time.

I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars.

I’ve never heard of faith-based dieting! I don’t think this book would be for me.

    • This book is definitely geared towards a very specialized audience Beth but even then, I think you need to be discerning (just like with any program) in determining what is the right diet for you.

I have heard of the Daniel Fast as early as the 90s when our church discussed it as a way to improve our health and draw closer to God. It is hard to maintain. This book sounds interesting though. Thanks for sharing on Literacy Musing Mondays.
