Sugar Crush – How To Reduce Inflammation, Reverse Nerve Damage, And Reclaim Good Health – Book Review

If you are like most people, you probably know that eating sugar is not particularly good for your health – but you probably don’t have any idea just how detrimental sugar really is to your health and well-being either.

For example, did you know that:

  • Each year, the average American eats 60 pounds of processed sugar?
  • 40 to 50 percent of American adults will develop diabetes?
  • We consume so much sugar that it is responsible for more deaths per year than the Viet Nam War, more deaths per year than alcohol, and more deaths per year than tobacco?

Whether you suffer from mysterious ailments that your doctors are having difficulty diagnosing or treating such as mysterious rashes, unpredictable digestive problems, debilitating headaches, mood and energy swings, and nerve compression – or are dealing with chronic health conditions such as obesity, diabetes, chronic pain, ALS, autism, and more – you need to read Sugar Crush – How To Reduce Inflammation, Reverse Nerve Damage, And Reclaim Good Health by Dr. Richard D. Jacoby and Raquel Baldelomar!

Sugar Crush is an eye-opening expose on the dangers of sugar that is so provocative, that if this book does not scare you into changing your diet and taking better care of your health, I can’t imagine what will!

The title and term Sugar Crush refers to a formula that the Dr. Richard D. Jacoby – one of the country’s leading peripheral nerve surgeons, elaborates on time and time again throughout the book:

Carbohydrates (sugar) + Trauma =
Nerve Damage, Pain and Dysfunction

The authors go to great length to help you understand how sugar:

  • Chemically causes inflammation that damages your nerves.
  • Results in excruciating pain, often made worse by prescription drugs.
  • Will inevitably kill you before your genetic timetable.

The book explains how tingling and numbness in your extremities, headaches that come out of the blue, extreme sensitivity to cold, heat or touch and muscle spasms or cramps are a few signs of early stage neuropathy. As you’ll discover, these symptoms are just the tip of the iceberg!

Sugar Crush explains everything you would want to know about the dangers of sugar, and its relationship to a shocking number of diseases. You will want to have a pen and a notebook near you as you read this book!

Fortunately, the authors indicate that for most of us, it is not too late to make lifestyle changes that can turn our lives around. Along with providing essential information on what causes inflammation and compression what we need to do to prevent it, the authors provide quizzes and tips on what to eat and what to avoid in our pursuit to better health.

Sugar Crush is the most comprehensive book that I’ve read on this topic to date and an invaluable resource for anyone fighting obesity, diabetes or pre-diabetes, or any number of chronic illnesses.

I highly recommend this book to you!

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

  11. Great review! I reviewed this one too and it did have lots of good (and sobering) information. I think if more people had this information, they would think twice about their shopping lists and what they consume–it certainly made me think.

As always sounds like an important book to help others improve their lives. thanks for sharing on Literacy Musing Mondays.

  15. Lizzie Lau says:

I agree. I spent last summer doing Whole 30 with my mom and we both noticed an enormous reduction in inflammation after just a couple of weeks of eliminating refined sugar and grains. My mom, age 67 had been going down the stairs slowly, gingerly, even a little bit sideways, and after about 3 weeks I saw her bounding down them! It’s hard to keep sugar completely out of our lives, it’s in everything, but making an effort really makes a huge difference. I’m going to check out the book.

  16. Trish says:

For a month last year I kicked ALL sugar out of my diet (or at least as much as I could since sugar creeps up in almost everything that isn’t 100% whole) and I was amazed at how much better I felt at the end of the month. But then I get pregnant and went back to convenience foods and and and… I am trying to be much more mindful, though, and trying to make smart decisions for my entire family. Sugar is scary! We should be scared into eating less of it.

Great video–glad you included that with your post.

  17. I really need to start taking better care of myself. Sugar addiction is a very real problem.

  18. Oh yikes!! Yet more reason to try to keep eating healthy! Thanks for the review, and the information!

  19. I wish I had read Sugar Crush – How To Reduce Inflammation, Reverse Nerve Damage, And Reclaim Good Health many years ago. My father suffers from the severe peripheral neuropathy and spinal stenosis. Maybe the information in this book could have helped him.
I am sure it will be helpful to many others. I am so glad you shared it at the Plant-based Potluck Party. Pinning it!

My eight-year-old son suffers from Type 1 Diabetes. Even though Type 1 is an autoimmune disease not caused by lifestyle, understanding and counting carbs is key for managing it! Thanks for sharing with our readers at the #LMMLinkup. I love to spread Type 1 Diabetes awareness at every chance!

  25. Patty says:

ouch. Those facts you shared were mind-boggling, and undoubtedly true. Sugar-addiction has such a hold on so many people—myself included—and is so hard to break! I did a Whole 30 two yrs ago, and i never felt better; I’m convinced that was due to the lack of sugar for 30 days!! That being said, Ive been considering cutting sugar out of my diet, so this post was very timely for me. Thank you for sharing, and have a great weekend!

  26. Laurie says:

This looks like a very important book. I’ve seen first hand about the sugar and headaches. I also feel like my dad who eats a lot of sugar would get some relief from his neuropathy with less sugar.

Thanks for sharing this at the the Sunday Sunshine Blog Hop!

    Blessings,
    Laurie
