The Prime – Prepare And Repair Your Body For Spontaneous Weight Loss – Book Review

The Prime

The Prime by Kulreet Chaudhary, MD – Book Review

Are you interested in losing weight, reducing inflammation in your body, ridding your body of toxins, and improving your overall health? Are you also interested in learning about cutting-edge research in the field of integrative medicine from a pioneer in the field?

If so, then The Prime – Prepare And Repair Your Body For Spontaneous Weight Loss by Kulreet Chaudhary, M.D., will be of particular interest to you!

The Prime describes a program that Integrative Neurologist Dr. Kulreet developed for her patients after she experienced a life-changing health crisis. In the Introduction to the book, Dr. Kulreet provides a compelling tale of her childhood in India, where her grandfather served as the doctor for their community, to her journey to America and through medical school. She shares how gradually, as her diet and lifestyle changed from that of a traditional Indian to that of a traditional American, her health declined, until she found herself suffering from debilitating migraines and on prescription medicine with major side effects for the first time in her life.

When her prescription started to affect her memory, her mother referred her to a traditional Ayurvedic doctor – who she saw, against her better Western medically trained judgement. Although she was skeptical of the approach at that time in her life, she was even more stunned when the doctor’s diagnosis of her condition turned out to be correct and – within three months – her migraines were gone!

This experience caused her to change the way she practiced and approached medicine and ultimately, The Prime was developed. The Prime is a program that helps patients to reduce the inflammation and toxin load in their bodies and to treat their neurological problems. A positive side effect of the program is that it also helps patients to spontaneously lose weight!

You move through the program by completing four stages (The Prime outlines specific steps for each stage):

  • Stage One: Activate A Biochemical Shift
  • Stage Two: Crush Cravings (No Willpower Required!)
  • Stage Three: Ignite Energy And Fat
  • Stage Four: Biohack Your Lifestyle Habits

The Prime also contains fascinating and pertinent information relating to neuroadaption, food addiction and your brain; digestion, and the connection between your gut and your brain.

One thing you should be aware of if you are considering purchasing this book is that many of the concepts contained within the book are derived from Ayurvedic medicine (whose religious roots the author discloses, but whose concepts she presents from a scientific perspective). If this is a concern, you will definitely want to read the book with discernment. However, I found that the beneficial information the author provides outweighed my initial concerns over the book.

Currently, I am redlining the book (underlining all of the pertinent passages for future and further exploration) – which definitely means the book is a keeper for me!

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

  1. Hi,
It is so refreshing to see a diet book with a healthy, almost holistic approach to weight loss instead of an often unhealthy crash diet with little consideration for nutrition. In short, I am very pleased to read that “The Prime is a program that helps patients to reduce the inflammation and toxin load in their bodies and to treat their neurological problems. A positive side effect of the program is that it also helps patients to spontaneously lose weight!” I look forward to reading this book as well.

    I like that paradigm shift.

  3. Thank you for sharing your review of The Prime with us at the Plant-Based Potluck Party! It’s so enlightening! I appreciate learning about this Ayurveda-inspired approach. Pinning and sharing!

  4. I’ll be honest – I’m not sure what to think about this one. Living in the midst of an Indian community who practices a lot of Ayurvedic medicine here in Malaysia, I would find it hard to separate the religion. That said, I am not a neurologist, so I don’t have the knowledge necessary to look into Ayurveda with discernment. I trust your judgment so I would give this book a try. It does sounds fascinating. Thanks so much for sharing this at Booknificent Thursday!

    • Tina, your perspective on this book would be interesting as a Christian who is living in the midst of an Indian/Ayurvedic community.

Even here in the States, there is a lot of integrative practices that combine things that you really have to use discernment for in determining if they are right for you.

I think that particularly when you are dealing with chronic issues, it is helpful to research all of your options so that you can decide what is best for you.

      Thanks for sharing!
