Unashamed – Healing Our Brokenness And Finding Freedom From Shame – Book Review
Can you imagine what life would be like if you went through your day without an ounce of shame tainting your social interactions with others? For some of us, it’s not something we really think about. For others, it’s something we can’t get out of our thoughts.
In her invaluable book Unashamed – Healing Our Brokeness And Finding Freedom From Shame, author Heather Davis Nelson opens our eyes to just how pervasive shame is in our society – “shame is everywhere” – and draws us towards the loving God who promises to forgive and restore us – no matter what.
In Unashamed, Heather frequently draws upon the findings of researcher Brené Brown and places her work in a biblical framework to help us make sense of life in a fallen world. Her book is very informative and provides great insight into the detrimental effects of shame in our lives, and helps us to understand how we can begin to change our response to shame, how we can raise our children to be shame-free, and how we can free ourselves from various types of shame through Christ and through community.
If you are struggling from the burden of shame in your life, Unashamed brings a much-needed message of hope into your life.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

I love Romans 15:14 in the message Bible that says” Personally I am completely satisfied with who you are and what you are doing.” …It reminds me that when God looks at me, He doesn’t see my sin, He sees the Blood of Jesus covering me and it gives me courage to get up and go forward in joy. Great review! Have you read Christine Caine’s book by the same title? It would be interesting to read them back to back and see how they compare in their message.
Yes – I read both and did a review of Christine Caine’s book as well! 🙂
