As the saying goes, you are what you eat. The philosophy of eating well for a healthier body isn’t a new one; in fact, it is one of the foundational ideas behind nutrition. As we wrote in our review of Dr. Don Colbert’s book, diet can vastly impact our physical health.
While there are recommended daily allowances for most foods, the fact of the matter is that not everyone has the means or schedule to eat a nutritionally-balanced meal every time. As a result, supplementing our dietary intake with products from a private label vitamins manufacturer has become a daily part of life for many of us.
Maximizing your meals is also important, however; this is where superfoods come into play. Superfoods are foods that are nutritionally dense, packing more vitamins and minerals than your average vegetables or fruits. In many cases, eating superfoods can make up for gaps in your diet. Here are a few examples that put the “super” in superfood.
Kale
Dark green leafy vegetables are among some of the most nutrition-packed foods on the planet, and chief among them is kale. Kale is one of the most nutritious plant foods in existence. It’s also very versatile, and can be eaten fresh in a salad, cooked, or juiced.
Kale has a ton of health benefits. It’s packed with vitamins A, K, C, B6, manganese, copper, potassium, magnesium, and vitamin B1, B2, and B3, as well as iron and phosphorus. It’s also chock full of antioxidants, and can lower the risk of heart disease and cancer.
Raw Honey
Did you know that there’s a huge difference between raw, fair trade honey products, like those you can purchase from Gold Bee, and the pasteurized honey that you find in most grocery stores?
Raw natural honey comes directly from the beehive. It’s made by extracting honey from the honeycombs of the hive, straining out impurities through a mesh or nylon cloth, and bottling it so that you can enjoy its many health and nutritional benefits, including antioxidants, antibacterial and antifungal properties.
On the other hand, pasteurized honey offers commercial benefits such as improved color, texture and an extended shelf life, but most of the honey’s beneficial nutrients and health properties are destroyed in the heating process.
If you’re looking for the natural sweetness of honey with the added bonus of a nutritional and health boost, raw honey is the way to go!
Acai Berries
Acai berries come from the rainforests of South America, and despite their small size are fully packed with nutrients and health benefits. In data published by Medical News Today, acai berries have been found to improve cognitive function, heart health, sports performance, and may even have anti-cancerous properties.
Acai berries are also rich in fatty acids, with more antioxidants than most common berries. Acai can be consumed as juices or smoothies, as puree, or even dried into powder and added to other food. They can also, of course, be eaten fresh, which is recommended if you want the full benefits of this superfood.
Wheatgrass
Simple, unassuming, but incredibly effective, wheatgrass is another superfood that can boost your diet and help you become healthier and happier. Made from the young grass of the common wheat plant, it’s a low-calorie, nutrient-rich food that can elevate your meals.
For example, a wheatgrass juice powder by Brightcore contains important vitamins and minerals. These include vitamins A, C, and E, iron, magnesium, calcium, and 17 amino acids. So including wheatgrass in your diet can boost your immune system, improve your digestion, and benefit your overall health. Wheatgrass can be consumed fresh in juices or through powdered, capsule supplements like the aforementioned product by Brightcore.
Green Tea
A staple in East Asia, green tea has slowly been growing in prominence as a superfood over the past few years. It has a ton of different health benefits. This includes, as Health.com reports, antioxidant properties, protection against neurodegenerative diseases, weight management, protection against cancer, immunity boosting, and diabetes prevention.
Although green tea is most popularly consumed as, of course, tea, there are also several other ways you can add it into your diet. You can blend the powder into smoothies, add it into oatmeal, or even use the liquid to steam rice. The powder can also be incorporated into marinades or soups, and is usually used for baked and breakfast goods.
Which of these superfoods are a regular part of your diet? Are there any other superfoods that you find particularly beneficial in your diet? Please leave a note in the comments and let us know your thoughts!

Some of those don’t look too yummy but most days I think all foods are super!
Health foods take some adjusting too – especially for guys and for cats! 🙂
Thanks a lot for the information! I love green leafy vegetables and will consume them more!
Good tips!
I love Acai fruit bowls, but the last time I had it was in Hawaii a year ago.
