If you’re a regular reader of this blog, then you know that I love surprising my husband with his favorite books – and surprised he was when I presented him with Ottoman Dominion, the final installment in the Empires of Armageddon Series. Isn’t this a stunner of a cover?
Hubby was so excited by the new arrival that he put his current read on hold to delve into Terry’s new book. Wondering what he thought? Check out his review and be sure to enter the giveaway at the end of the post!
Ottoman Dominion by Terry Brennan – Book Review
As I ruminate over Terry Brennan’s third and final book in the Empires of Armageddon series, Ottoman Dominion, two passages from the Bible come to mind. The first verse is Mark 3:24 NKJV:
If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
This verse stands in stark contrast to the sentiments Solomon expressed in Ecclesiastes 4:11-12 NASB:
Furthermore, if two lie down together they keep warm, but how can one be warm alone? And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.
Ottoman Dominion is. at its core, a story of two kingdoms in conflict: the kingdom of God, the perfect and eternal creator of all things and the kingdom of Satan, a rebel and liar who, from the very beginning, has tried to usurp God and His throne. Therein lies the main difference between the nature and character of the two kingdoms: how they internally work and what motivates their actions.
When we last left the series (at the close of Persian Betrayal), there were two localized earthquakes of nefarious, supernatural origins. One was under the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv and the other was under the residence of Atticus Cleveland (the Ambassador to Israel), who lived a short distance away. The earthquakes were nefarious in nature because that were caused by a mysterious, demon-like creature called the Turk who used ungodly spiritual forces to wreak havoc with the intent of retrieving the box of power and destroying the Gaon’s second prophecy. The story is complex – if you’re new to the series, I encourage you to read the first two books in the series, Ishmael Covenant and Persian Betrayal, so you can fully appreciate the intricacies of this plot.
Ottoman Dominion picks up where Persian Betrayal left off. This story focuses on what happens in the aftermath of the two earthquakes and the attack by the Disciples on both locations. Who survives? Does the box of power fall into the hands of the evil Disciples? Does good or evil triumph? What about the nuclear weapons? These are just a few of the questions that had me hanging on the edge of my seat!
Terry Brennan is a master at creating complex plots filled with international intrigue and apocalyptic overtones and filling them with characters that you grow to know and love. He is skilled at nailing the human condition in both redeemed and unredeemed individuals, providing readers with both non-stop action and moments of prayer and poignant pause, and drawing major works to satisfying conclusions.
Ottoman Dominion and the entire Empires of Armageddon series was a joy to read because of the engaging way that the story took us outside of our ordinary lives and immersed us so fully and skillfully in a different reality.
Terry Brennan has refined that skill into an art form. It’s my prayer that it will not be five more years, as it was between The Jerusalem Prophecy series
and the Empires of Armageddon series, before we can immerse ourselves into his next series.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Hello. I have never heard of the author or this book series. Is it similar to the Left Behind series? Have an enchanted evening.

Hello Cynthia,
Thank you so much for the comment and the question. Since I have read all 16 books in the Left Behind series including the 3 prequels, I am happy to compare that series with Terry Brennan’s books to give you some insight.
Left Behind series focuses primarily on post-rapture events in a wonderfully fictionalized imagining. There were three prequels included in the series, but their primary purpose was to give history on the birth, grooming and rise of the Anti-Christ. Terry Brennan’s book looks at Biblical fiction from a different point of view.
The series you are asking about, Empires of Armageddon, is a three-book series. The essence of the book is built around Satan and his minions, both supernatural and human, trying to destroy the potential for the fulfillment of prophecy. The Bible, which is the inerrant and infallible Word of God, would cease to be the perfect Word of God if even one prophecy failed. So, you get to see behind the curtain as evil seeks to thwart God’s plans and man’s interaction with the supernatural. It is well done and action packed.
The Jerusalem Prophecy series, Terry’s first series, occurs right before the Rapture of the church and follows a number of wonderfully developed characters around the globe. It is more closely related to the prequels of the Left Behind Series but is focused more on adventure and discovery. Think of these books a Christianized fiction meets Indiana Jones.
In both cases, these series will capture both your attention and imagination. They will make you think especially if you have Biblical faith. You are in an enviable position that while being late to the party on this author, you don’t have to wait months for the next book to arrive.
Enjoy the journey and thanks again for stopping by and commenting!
Thank you. You captured the essence of both series – probably better than I could. I really appreciate your enthusiastic support.
